Fast and easy growing plant?

Hi. This summer I'm going to have a lot of time on my hands,so I was thinking about improving my backyard. I would prefer easy to grow yet fast plants. I would love if it would attract hummingbirds and butterflies, but I guess that might not be all possible. Currently, I am growing marigolds. Also I would appreciate any tips on making my backyard prettier. I just finished painting my fence Thanks!

Great question and dozens of possible answers. You don't say where you live so it is difficult to choose plants for you. I will give you some links to look at plants that I would suggest but please make sure the plants that I'm suggesting are suitable for your growing zone.
